Twitter feed updates
Twitter already announced at the beginning of February that it would charge for API access with a very short deadline. In the meantime, we have received the message that this API access will
probably cost $100/month. However, there should also be a certain limit where you can still use the API for free. From the information given, however, I cannot understand whether this will have a
negative effect on the SWTOR_retweet account.
We use the Twitter API, among other things, to create retweets on SWTOR_retweet. Without this access, this would no longer be possible.
As it is currently being communicated, the account should continue as normal for the time being, but I can't promise anything. Therefore, please expect stops from February 13th, 2023. I'll update
the post here when I have more information.
Here is my general approach in both situations:
Twitter continues to allow free API access
This would of course be the best case. If no code changes are required, the account will continue to function as now.
If changes to the program code are required, the account will temporarily not work. This should last within 1-2 weeks.
Twitter is NO longer allowing free API access
In this case, we can no longer use our programs for retweeting. So these would be gone. It would not be possible to manage the retweets, since this account relies on the API. I would probably
have to give up this account.
Conclusion
I don't want to give up retweets. I believe it's an important part of the community and help many players as well as help bring the SWTOR community together.
The SWTOR_retweet account now has more than 1800 followers, including some familiar ones.
